About Us

Chris:

Chris Crisler is the owner of Christopher’s Coins. He has been involved in coin collecting most of his life. His other experiences in life have been quite diverse. Prior to graduating from college with a Bachelor of Business degree, majoring in Accounting, one of his major accomplishments was serving as a commando in the U.S. Naval Special Forces as a qualified SEAL. Chris operated as a Frogman in Underwater Demolition Team 12 (UDT) during the Vietnam era. His particular specialty within the Teams was as a wet mini-sub primary pilot/operator. After leaving the Teams, he graduated from college, spending over 20 years in the accounting, auditing/finance field and rose to Vice President of Finance for a prestigious corporation.

In 1999, Chris seriously looked into becoming a coin dealer. He was fortunate enough to meet a retired coin dealer who became a great mentor and personal friend. They developed and enjoyed a friendship together until his friend passed away in 2012 at the age of 86. Chris learned an enormous amount from this true friend. In addition, before opening a retail coin shop in Oneonta, Chris set up as a dealer at coin shows across the nation, buying and selling. He gained comprehensive knowledge from the experiences, as well as building relationships with other dealers across the nation. This has allowed his business access to markets nationwide for both buying and selling that many coin dealers do not have. Chris is well respected with a solid reputation. Chris views those years doing coin shows across the nation as having served as an apprenticeship in the coin business. Chris is a member of the American Numismatic Association (ANA).

Though Chris originally favored Lincoln Cents, Buffalo Nickels and Mercury Head Dimes, his mentor friend taught him to become knowledgeable in all aspects of U.S. Coins and Currency, from Colonial times to present.
